Orthodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that is focused on diagnosing, preventing, and treating issues related to the face, jaw, and malocclusions (bite irregularities). One of the most common orthodontic procedure that patients seek are braces or removable dental appliances.

Am I or is My Child a Good Candidate for Braces?
While we all want straight teeth, and want our children to have straight teeth, the unfortunate fact is that some of us will be predisposed to dental issues that make having straight teeth difficult. If you or your child has an issue with gaps between their teeth, underbite, overbite, or crooked teeth, you may want to consider dental braces. There are several different dental brace types, so it is important to discuss which option is best for you and/or your child with your orthodontist, who will make their determination based on which brace will best address the specific alignment issues you or your child are facing.
Cost of Orthodontic Treatment and Braces
The cost of your procedure, treatment, or braces will be determined by a variety of factors, such as the severity of your case, what type of braces or treatment is needed, and what type of dental plan you are currently enrolled in. Our office does accept cash, most major credit cards, money orders, and personal checks.
If you have concerns about the extent of care required and would like to discuss alternate financial arrangements, please feel free to contact our office to discuss CareCredit. CareCredit helps patients pay for procedures and treatments that are not covered by insurance by offering low minimum monthly payments and No Interest* financing so you can get what you want, when you want it. Applying for Care Credit only takes three simple steps and can provide instant approval.
If you have any additional questions regarding payments, dental insurance coverage, or available financial options, please contact our office and we will be happy to help.
Different Types of Dental Braces
When people hear the word “dental braces”, they generally think of metal braces. Metal braces are still used and appropriate for certain cases, but there are a range of different brace types, all of which vary in their appearance, cost, level of comfort, and efficacy in addressing particular alignment issues.
The four most common brace types are:
- Traditional Metal Braces: These braces are made of metal brackets which are attached to your teeth with wires. One of the biggest benefits to traditional metal braces is they are the least expensive option, however one of the bigger drawbacks is they are much more noticeable than other braces. Fortunately, metal brace technology has improved over the years and it is now much easier to adjust the metal braces for proper fit than it has been historically.
- Lingual Braces: These braces are also metal, but unlike traditional metal braces, they are attached to the back of your teeth. The benefit of this type of brace is that they are practically invisible, however they are more expensive and can also be a bit more uncomfortable when compared to traditional braces. Please note: lingual braces are not always an option for patients who require more extreme alignments.
- Ceramic Braces: These are similar to metal braces, but because they are made of ceramic, which is a clear material, they blend in with the natural color of your teeth. The rate at which they can be aligned is also similar to metal braces. The biggest benefit to this type of brace is that they are much less noticeable, however they are much more expensive and can easily become discolored or stained if improperly taken care of.
- Invisalign: Invisalign is an increasingly popular alternative to metal braces that can help straighten patients’ teeth quickly and comfortably. Invisalign has been backed by research and proven to help treat a variety of dental issues in a wide range of patients from teenagers to adults. The benefits of Invisalign are that they are comfortable, easy to remove, and are practically invisible. With the advances in Invisalign there are very few problems we can not correct using Invisalign. Many patients have wonderful experiences with Invisalign, so if you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth—whether they are crooked, you have a gap, or an over- or over-bite—this may be a good option for you.
